The Exhibit - 3 Key Messages
Light is a powerful scientific tool
Raman Spectroscopy is a powerful technique that uses light to detect tiny vibrations in molecules. The vibrations give information about what the material is made of, and this can help to detect life on Mars or disease in the human body.
The global population is aging
By 2050, 2 billion people world-wide are likely to be over 60 years old. This aging population presents new health challenges such as muscle and bone loss and bone diseases like osteoarthritis. We need to develop technologies that reduce the number of future hip fractures, decrease the loss of mobility and enhance the life quality experienced by older people.
Scientists need to work together
Interdisciplinary research brings together researches from many different sciences such as chemistry, computer sciences, medicine and physics to work on the BIG global problems. Maintaining a healthy global population requires scientists to collaborate and share their knowledge and expertise.
