PhD Student Chemistry
Tommy Loan is a chemistry PhD student working under Professor Mark Bradley at the University of Edinburgh. He graduated with an MSci in chemistry from the University of Glasgow, which included a year-long research project at the University of Barcelona, focusing on the applications of nanomaterials in drug delivery.
After graduating, he undertook research internships at the Manipal Institute of Technology and the University of Coimbra. Tommy then joined the Bradley group in 2020. His work focuses on the synthesis of novel organic-based near and infrared-emitting dyes for the preparation of imaging probes to monitor cancer pathogenesis. He aims to develop probes with switchable signals and multimodal capabilities, including fluorescence lifetime, 2 and 3 photon and Raman imaging.
