Undergraduate Student
Hiroki Cook is a first year PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Sumeet Mahajan and Prof. Richard Oreffo with the multidisciplinary Biophotonics group at the University of Southampton. Work during his Master’s in Physics focused on medical applications including his dissertation in magnetic nanoparticles for imaging and cancer therapy, final year project in synthesis of antibiotic-sensing nanoparticles for fluorometric assays, and NHS research project into extracting diagnostic information from live neurosurgery imaging.
His work for the PhD involves developing techniques for label-free non-invasive non-linear microscopy operating in the NIR/SWIR, for deep tissue diagnostic imaging. Projects involve design and building of optical systems and spectroscopic characterisation and imaging of human tissue.
