Dr Lin Xu is a Senior Research Fellow in the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at University of Southampton. Lin has his expertise in fibre lasers and nonlinear optics with over 10-year research experience. He has involved in and worked on a number of EPSRC projects to develop advanced fibre lasers for applications including telecommunication, materials processing and bio-imaging.

He has led and delivered two industrial funded research projects of wide-band fibre amplifier development for next generation telecommunication. In the area of nonlinear optics, his research covers optical parametric oscillators, sum frequency generation, Raman lasers, supercontinnum generations and etc. He has developed laser sources with wavelength regions including far-UV, visible, near infrared and mid infrared.
