Dr Ewan Forsyth

Research Fellow in Chemistry

Dr Ewan Forsyth is the chemistry Postdoctoral Research Associate based at the University of Edinburgh on the EPSRC supported InLighenUs project.  His chemistry training began at the University of Aberdeen, where he gained a First-Class Honours BSc in Chemistry. His PhD, University of Aberdeen 2020, focussed on the structural design, organic synthesis and physical characterisation of new liquid crystal oligomers.

His passion for organic chemistry and structure-property relationships grew throughout his PhD, and this passion continues to be a driving force of his current research. Dr Ewan Forsyth is using the toolkit of organic and polymer chemistry to design, synthesise and characterise new molecular materials for up-converting applications. He is also working on new generation optical-medical phantoms, with both outputs being used throughout the highly interdisciplinary InLightenUs project.
